Photographs are awesome. Especially portraits of you with a person of great importance in your life. It tells a story. But even for a Christian, it is sometimes difficult to develop a picture of you and God because you can't see Him. You can't hear Him. You can't touch Him. And yet, He saw you before you existed. He spoke your name when you turned a deaf ear. He touched you when you were numb to life. He found you when you were hiding from everyone. When this truth consumes you, it will transform your relationship with Him. Don't trust what your eyes can see. We live in the Photoshop generation. Trust what your redeemed heart can envision. Though He is too holy for you to look upon, His holy eyes have looked upon you with tenderness and love. Tears of mercy streamed down His face when He saw you in your vulnerable position. He looked forward to your brief moment in time. He lived it over and over in His mind. His eyes ached because of your pain, yet He never took them off of you. You don't hear God, not because He isn't speaking, but perhaps because you are. Or you are listening to someone else. His whisper carries across generations. His shout turns your enemies to shadows. He calls you by name. He called you before you had a name. When He calls your name, it is as if your name were dipped in honey. He is also listening, straining to hear you call His name. Say it now. "Jesus". Say it aloud. Something special happens when you say only that word. "Jesus!” Say it once more. Close your eyes and say the Name that shakes Hell, Earth and Heaven. God wants you. He wants you bad. He can't bear the thought of you not trusting Him. God did not promise that you wouldn't go through difficulty, but He did promise to be with you in it. And you know He is. He went through much worse on your behalf. He has the eternal scars to prove it. Your scars have already begun to fade. His will last forever, as a testimony to His love for you. He has invested His whole being to acquire you. You can be sure He won't abandon you. The writer of Hebrews put it this way, “Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.” (Hebrews 11:1-2) His love for you is great. And now you have the ability to love Him back. Not pay Him back. He doesn't lack resources. He only lacks your affection and devotion. He cannot give that to Himself. Only you can give that. Love Him. With your eyes, your ears, your hands, love Him. With everything He has given you... Love Him today. Find more of David’s work at Heart Of Ministry.
